EXCUSES

I was only trying to fit in with the kids in school
I never thought for a minute that I'd become a fool

I was only trying to help myself enjoy the weekend dance
I never thought that I wouldn't get a second chance

I was only trying to go on a happy mental trip
I never thought that my mind would be the one to flip

I was only trying to relieve my mental pain
I never thought that I would fry my own brain

I was only trying to fit into the social whirl
I never thought that 'I' could do that to a girl

I was only trying to relax before my Big Date
I never thought of pregnancy and now it's too late

I only wanted to see the insides of a bar
I never thought I'd end up wrecking the family car

I was only trying to help myself not feel so sad
I never thought at all about my Mom and Dad

I was only trying hard to have myself some fun
I never thought that I would ever start carrying a gun

I was only trying to get some relief in my head
I never thought that anyone was going to end up dead

I was only trying to make my life into a party time
I never thought that it would lead me into a life of crime

I was only trying to keep myself 'just a little high'
I never thought that night 'IT WAS MY TURN TO DIE'
